About us

Personal knowledge makes the difference.

We began in 2011 with a simple idea: the person planning your safari should have walked the same paths, slept in the same tents and known the guides by name.

Our story

From a guide's notebook to a London studio.

The company was founded by a former walking guide from Zambia's Luangwa Valley and a London travel planner who had spent years arranging journeys from a desk. One knew the bush; the other knew how to make a complicated route run on time. Together they built the kind of company they had wanted to book with.

Fifteen years on we are still small on purpose: six planners, each of whom has lived, guided or worked in Africa, supported by partners on the ground in Arusha, Nairobi, Kigali, Maun, Windhoek and Lusaka. Between us we visit more than sixty camps a year.

“We do not sell anywhere we have not slept, and we do not send anyone where we would not send our own families.”

What we believe

Four principles we plan by.

Small camps, chosen in person

Twelve tents or fewer, visited by our team, with owners who invest in their staff and their land.

Guides make the safari

We match you with a guide for your interests and pace, and we request the same guides year after year.

Conservation you can see

Park and conservancy fees are shown on every proposal, and we add a contribution to community projects run by the camps we use.

Honest advice

If a month is wrong for a place, or a camp is not right for you, we will say so, even when it means a smaller booking.

The team

Planners who have been there.

Each of our planners looks after a small number of journeys at a time, from the first call to the flight home. You will always know who you are speaking to, and they will know your plans in detail.

Begin a conversation

Start with a call, not a brochure.

Tell us a little about yourselves and how you like to travel. We will listen first.
