Questions
Good questions, plain answers.
The things travellers ask us most often before a first safari. If yours is not here, ask us directly; there is no such thing as a small question.
PlanningHow far ahead should I start planning?
For July to October in East Africa, or for exclusive-use camps, nine to twelve months ahead is ideal. Gorilla permits and the best migration camps sell out first. Shorter notice is often possible outside peak season, so it is always worth asking.
PlanningWhat does a journey with you cost?
Most of our journeys cost between $15,000 and $40,000 per person for seven to fourteen nights, excluding international flights. Exclusive-use camps and private aviation sit at the upper end. Your proposal shows every element and price before you commit.
PlanningCan you change a signature journey?
Always. The journeys on this site are starting points. We can shorten, extend, combine countries or design something entirely new around your dates and interests.
PlanningDo you book international flights?
Yes, on request. Many guests prefer to use their own airline points; we then arrange everything from the moment you land, including fast-track arrival where available.
BookingHow do deposits and payments work?
A 30% deposit confirms your journey, and the balance is due 90 days before departure. Client payments are held in a dedicated trust account until you travel. Full terms are included with every proposal.
BookingShould I take out travel insurance?
Yes. Comprehensive insurance including medical evacuation is required for every journey we arrange. We can recommend specialist providers who understand remote travel.
On safariIs a safari suitable for children?
Very much so, with the right camps. Many welcome children from six, walking safaris start at twelve and gorilla trekking at fifteen. We suggest family-friendly camps with private vehicles so you set the pace.
On safariHow much luggage can I bring?
Light aircraft usually allow 20 kg per person, including hand luggage, in soft-sided bags. Most camps offer daily laundry, so you need less than you think. We send a packing list with your travel documents.
On safariWhat about health and vaccinations?
Requirements differ by country and change from time to time. Most of our destinations are in malaria areas, and some ask for a yellow fever certificate. Please see a travel clinic about six weeks before departure; we send country notes to help.
On safariWhat happens if something goes wrong while I am travelling?
You have a direct line to our team, answered 24 hours a day, and our partners on the ground can reach you quickly. Flight delays, illness or a change of plan are handled by people who know you and your itinerary.
