Namibia
The journey
Namibia is a country of enormous distances and very few people, which is why we see it best from a small aircraft with a pilot who is also your guide. You will land on gravel strips beside empty valleys, walk among the dead camel-thorn trees of Deadvlei before the sun clears the dunes, and follow desert-adapted elephants along dry riverbeds. Evenings are quiet enough to hear the sand move.
