The journey
South Luangwa is where the walking safari began, and it is still the best place to try one. On foot you notice everything: the alarm call of a puku, the warm smell of a buffalo path, the size of a lion's track in the morning sand. Our Zambian guides are among the most experienced in Africa, and they pace each walk to you. Later, the Lower Zambezi gives you the river by canoe.
10 nights
How the days unfold
- 01South Luangwa · 4 nights
Walking country
A small camp on the Luangwa River. Morning walks with an armed scout and specialist guide, afternoon drives into the evening, when leopard are most active.
- 02Remote fly camp · 2 nights
A night in the open
Walk between camps with your guide while the crew moves ahead. Sleep in a simple bed under a mosquito net, with the bush settling around you.
- 03Lower Zambezi · 3 nights
On the river
Canoe past elephants feeding on the islands, fish for tigerfish and take sundowners on a sandbank as the escarpment turns purple.
- 04Victoria Falls · 1 night

A guided walk across the rain forest paths opposite the Falls and, when the water allows, a visit to Livingstone Island.
